Sunrise Cafe COVID 19 Response – Breakfast Suspended

Friends and volunteers,

This morning, the board of directors in consultation with our Operations Manager made the gut wrenching decision to temporarily suspend breakfast at the Cafe until appropriate safety supplies are available in sufficient quantities to ensure as best we can that our staff, volunteers and guests are safe.

We are so extremely grateful for your support for the Cafe.  If you are able, your continued donations during our temporary suspension will allow us to continue to pay our staff during this challenging time.

We will resume serving breakfast to New Haven’s unhoused and food insecure as soon as we are able.

Thank you for all that you are doing and be safe.

Sunrise Cafe’s take away “brown bag” breakfast is in full swing.  We had a porta-potty delivered today for guests to use while the Cafe is serving breakfast.  It will be locked when breakfast ends.

We are so very grateful for the contributions of staff and volunteers in the preparation of the take away breakfasts and thank you all for your support for the Cafe.

While the Cafe can operate with just a few volunteers, our friends at FISH need you if you have time to volunteer. They have implemented new safety precautions for their volunteers.

FISH (Food In Service to the Homebound) is welcoming new volunteers to pack and/or deliver groceries between 10:30 AM and 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

They also need volunteers to pick up donated food items from BJ’s in North Haven between the hours of 9:00 and 11:00 AM, Monday through Friday.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email with your name and availability.

Until we resume normal operations, we continue to ask for donations of juice boxes, granola/breakfast bars and individual serving cereal packages.  Donations can be dropped off at the Cafe between 7:30 am and 9:30 am Monday through Friday.
