COVID-19 RESPONSE

Sunrise Cafe News

Sunrise Cafe New Haven
Friends and volunteers,

We have been responding to the pandemic with adjusted Cafe operations for ten weeks.  Sometimes, that seems like an eternity, sometimes like the blink of an eye.  Our staff – Thelma, Julio and Paul – along with our long time volunteers -Sandy, Lorenzo, Dusty, Mike, Charles and Deborah – continue to serve a “take-away” breakfast to about 50 guests each morning just outside the entrance to the Cafe.  Recently, we have been able to take 25 breakfasts to Fair Haven on Thursday and Friday supplementing the Wednesday breakfasts provided by Amistad House. Starting the week of June 1, volunteers from EmergeCT (https://emergect.net) will take Sunrise Cafe breakfasts to Fair Haven on Monday and Tuesday.

We are grateful for the work of Dr. Phil and his staff providing medical services outdoors at the Cafe once a week.

We are grateful that we have been able to pay our staff during the pandemic.

We are grateful for our donors who continue to provide financial support.  Special thanks to everyone who contributed to New Haven’s Great Give.  Your generosity to all of the participating organizations in these stressful and uncertain times is inspiring.  Thank you for your financial support for the Cafe.

We are grateful that the spirit of the Cafe continues to thrive and look forward to a time when social distancing means gathering in conversation around a table, enjoying a warm breakfast and catching up with friends.

We are profoundly grateful for your support for the Cafe and for all you do.
