Beginning Monday, our staff and volunteers will again be preparing bags at the Cafe and will be including a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. We are currently serving 50-60 guests per day with all service outdoors along Olive Street.
At the Cafe
This morning, the board of directors in consultation with our Operations Manager made the gut wrenching decision to temporarily suspend breakfast at the Cafe until appropriate safety supplies are available in sufficient quantities to ensure as best we can that our staff, volunteers and guests are safe.
Sunrise Cafe’s take away “brown bag” breakfast is in full swing. We had a porta-potty delivered today for guests to use while the Cafe is serving breakfast. It will be locked when breakfast ends.

Homeless guests gather outside Sunrise for meals to go. Guests were greeted under a tent set up at the Olive and Chapel corner entrance and offered hot coffee while they waited for a bag full of breakfast items, such as sandwiches, granola bars, and juice, to be brought to them.
We know where the compassion is! We see it at the Cafe.
We see it in our guests for one another. We see it in our volunteers and our staff for our guests. We see it in you. Compassion nourishes us in a way that food cannot.
Our Thanksgiving breakfast is served on the Wednesday before.
The Cafe takes a break on Thanksgiving and Christmas because there are other breakfast options available in New Haven on these holidays.
